To our Canadian Customers

Gates Circle Wine & Liquor would like to make your stay in the United States a pleasant one.  Here are some quick and easy guidelines for the border crossing.  There are several links here to help you with your success trip.

Please feel free to use our online shopping cart to place your order in advance and we’ll have it ready for when you stop in. In stock item orders can be filled same day. Please call for out of stock items as we receive deliveries several times each week and can arrange to have your items before you return home.

Tax Exempt Beverage Quantities

gatestable

The above listed quantities require that you stay in the US for 48 hours or more and are part of your personal exemption limits.

Buying more than the Personal Exemption Limit

For Ontario customers buying over the personal exemption limit, you may bring back up to 45 liters of wine, liquor, or beer. The duties and taxes due on amounts over your personal exemption limit are 70% duty and 13% HST. Typically we find that in most cases, your total amount paid is still lower than the Ontario LCBO price. We carry many items not listed on the LCBO approved product list and have access to 1,000′s more that we can specially order for you.

Note: The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) classifies “cooler” products according to the alcoholic beverage they contain. For example, beer coolers are considered to be beer and wine coolers are considered to be wine. Alcohol and wine products not exceeding 0.5% alcohol by volume are not considered to be alcoholic beverages.

The quantities of alcohol you can bring in must be within the limit set by the province or territory where you will enter Canada. If the value of the goods is more than your personal exemption, you will have to pay both duty and taxes, as well as provincial tax on the amount over the personal exemption limits.
